What's a hook, verse, and bridge?

Verse

Your storytelling block. Usually 16 bars. Where the bars live.

Hook

The catchy repeatable chorus. 4–16 bars. The part strangers hum back.

Bridge

A change-up before the last hook. Switch cadence, key, or perspective.

Intro / Outro

Short bookends. Set the tone at the start; land the mic at the end.

A "bar" is one line of rap over one measure of the beat — typically 4 beats.
